Is your carpet in need of a refresh? Over time, your carpet will collect all kinds of dirt and grime and eventually a regular vacuuming will just not cut it. At this point it may be a good idea to get your carpet professionally cleaned in order to make it look as good as new again. If you are ready to have your carpet professionally cleaned, you will need to choose what type of carpet cleaning you would like. There are four main methods for cleaning carpets that all work best in different homes and on different carpets. To help you figure out the best method for your carpets, see below.
- Absorbent Pad
This first method is a great option for routine carpet maintenance, but should not be considered for deep cleaning. Absorbent pad cleaning or bonnet cleaning involves vacuuming the carpet, applying a chemical compound, and then using a rotating machine with an absorbent pad to scrub and absorb dirt from the carpet. This method is inexpensive and good for lightly soiled carpets, but since it only cleans the top of the carpet fibres it is not recommended for deeper stains.
- Wet Cleaning
As one of the most popular methods, wet cleaning is a well known way to give your carpets a deep clean. A machine will precondition your carpet, inject near-boiling water, and then vacuuming up the remaining moisture, dirt, and solution. If it has been a long time since you have seen your carpet look fresh and clean, it may need to be wet cleaned in order to remove all ground in soils and stains. Many professionals recommend this method if you can afford to spend a little more and wait a little longer for your carpet to dry.
- Rotary Shampoo or Dry Foam
The dry foam method uses a dry reagent on the carpet that is scrubbed with a rotating brush in order to create foam. The foam helps trap dirt so that your carpet sparkles when everything is vacuumed up after the clean. If you want to avoid long drying times but still want a powerful clean on the top of your carpet, this is an inexpensive way to do it. Although powerful on the surface, be aware that the brushes do not reach the very bottom of thicker carpets.
- Absorbent Compound
Using the absorbent compound method is another great way to avoid long drying times as it mainly uses dry powder to clean your carpet. After application, the solvent is scrubbed with a rotating brush and easily vacuumed up afterwards. This method will hardly disturb your daily routine, but may cause excess dust in your home due to the powder. This powder can also build up in plush carpets, so do not use this method every time you clean your carpets or a deeper clean may be required.
